It is a neighborhood bringing together various stores, ranging from professional electrical appliances to consumer electronics. In recent years, many stores dealing in anime merchandise and subculture have also lined the streets, giving it a dual identity as both an electronics district and a mecca for otaku culture.
The town spreading along Sakaisuji Avenue
Stretching for about 1 kilometer along Sakaisuji Avenue from Nipponbashi 3-chome to 5-chome, over 150 shops are lined up. It is a street bustling with a diverse crowd, ranging from people looking for electronic parts to tourists. To the west, there is also a street known as "Ota Road," and walking through both offers so many shops that you won't be able to visit all of them in a single day.
From the town of used books to the town of electronics
From the Meiji to the Taisho era, it flourished as a town for secondhand clothing and used books, and the post-war increase in shops dealing in radio parts and tools marked the beginning of the electronics district. In 1978, it was given the nickname "Denden Town" and has since been beloved as Osaka's premier electronics district.
