Located just behind the Namba Grand Kagetsu, "Chitose" is a diner known as the birthplace of Osaka's famous "nikusui" (beef soup). Although it is popular enough to form lines before opening, its flavor and atmosphere are purely those of a traditional "neighborhood diner." It is a uniquely local establishment where Minami's comedy culture and food come together.
Meat udon, without the udon
It is said that the birth of the famous specialty, "nikusui," was sparked when Yoshimoto Shin-kigeki actor Kyo Hanaki ordered "meat udon, without the udon" on a hangover morning. Filled with sweetly and savory simmered beef and a soft-boiled egg in a clear broth, this dish is gentle yet rich, and warms the stomach through and through.
For the side dish, a small bowl of rice "Kodama".
The regular customer's favorite is meat soup (nikusui) paired with a small bowl of rice topped with an egg, known as "kodama." The sheer bliss of shoveling in rice while scooping up the broth with a Chinese soup spoon is exceptional. It's available while supplies last, so please come early.
